Nokia marketing director takes on beefed-up role

Nokia marketing director Will Harris has had his role expanded to head up the company’s UK Go to Market team.

The handset manufacturer has merged its Go to Market and marketing teams globally and the entire UK team will now report to Harris. It is understood that Go to Market’s current chief Sami Lehtinen will move to the new role of head of UK retail as the handset manufacturer looks to realign globally.

Nokia’s Go to Market team, which was launched at the start of this year, oversees new product and services development in the market place.

The move comes at a time when the handset manufacturer is seeking to cut costs. In November, it said it was cutting 600 jobs globally following a profits warning.

Earlier this month, Nokia estimated that mobile device volumes for the last quarter of the year would fall by 5% on its previous forecast of 330 million units.

Nokia plans to cut costs ‘appropriately’ next year to ‘offset the negative impact of slowing sales’. However, it is targeting an increase in its 2009 market share despite the negative forecast.
