Carphone pushing cut price Samsung U600 as Christmas looms
Carphone is backing the Samsung U600 as its main prepay device in the run up to Christmas.
The retailer has given the sub £50 device a large marketing push, with TV and billboard adverts, as well as a prominent spot on its website. The advertising is focused on the fact that Carphone recently dropped the U600’s price from £69.95 to £48.88 on the Vodafone network.
The device is the latest Samsung prepay handset to have been given a large price cut.
Mobile reported last week that Samsung has significantly improved its prepay share this Christmas after adopting an aggressive pricing policy. The manufacturer has never seriously gone after prepay before, but currently has three of the top four selling prepay handsets.
Three of Samsung’s devices – the J700, E250 and G600 – are thought to be selling 100,000 per week between them. The manufacturer’s overall prepay share is thought to have catapulted from 19% at the start of 2008 to 30% now.
