Six-month contracts remain a key strategy for 3 in 2009
The six-month contract will remain a key strategy for 3 in 2009, after a Christmas push on the deal in stores.

3 stores were luring customers with a fresh marketing push on a six-month contract during the period, in a bid to turn prepay customers into contract customers.

A 3 spokeswoman said: ‘3 is committed to challenging the market and six-month contracts will remain a key tool in 2009. This offer is a stepping stone for prepay customers into the contract market.’

The six-month contracts were introduced in February 2008, and for £15 per month, customers can get a free handset on a six-month plan.
However, the phones available are subject to change, as the free phones offered are refurbished.

A 3 salesman said: ‘They are as good as new; it just depends on which handsets they are pushing.’
