Vodafone focuses on lifting BlackBerry Storm sales

Vodafone is focusing the BlackBerry Storm on small-business customers by combining it with a mobile broadband dongle for a total of £45 per month.

The move comes after sales of the Storm have rapidly fallen among consumer customers, dropping from what is believed to be around 19,000 sales per week when it was launched, to 6,000 per week more recently.

Staff at Vodafone and Phones 4u stores have been given special training to help customers understand the device before they buy.

A Vodafone spokeswoman said returns on the Storm were ‘in line with other smartphones’, adding: ‘The Storm is the first smartphone for a lot of customers, so it can take some getting used to. That’s why we are ensuring customers have proper demonstrations before buying.’

One store staff member said: ‘There is nothing inherently wrong with the Storm, but it’s a hell of a jump for the typical customer using a Nokia 6300, so we do get quite a few back.’

Sales of the iPhone continue to be strong although they are tailing off, while the Samsung Tocco and Sony Ericsson C905 continue to be strong on contract.
