Hyde upbeat over recession in GFK conference speech
Outgoing T-Mobile UK MD, Jim Hyde, believes that the UK mobile industry can turn the economic recession into an advantage in the long term.
Hyde, speaking at the GFK conference yesterday, said: ‘Recession doesn’t slow down appetite for the next big thing - in many ways recession can drive it. After all, the last boom came off the back of an economic depression.’
Hyde believes that the biggest opportunities lie within bundling on-the-move services, and the growth in demand for mobile content. He added: ‘The take-up of mobile broadband tells a powerful story.
‘There’s a whole new eco-system opening up in mobile. We don’t have to look far into the future to see the wireless world taking off, and we’re just scratching the surface of NFC. The opportunities far outweigh the challenges.’
Jim Hyde recently announced that he will leave T-Mobile at the end of March to join NTELOS, a regional fixed and mobile operator in America. T-Mobile has not given any indication of possible replacements.
