Next week, the GSMA Mobile World Congress will see around 50,000 attendees pull together to discuss what could become a new business model for the mobile industry.
One of the main themes of the conference is expected to be how hardware and software can be integrated closer together.
Manufacturers are expected to reveal new smartphones – the area of the market which has the most growth potential – alongside new services and platforms.
The exhibition, which takes place as normal in Barcelona between 16 February to 19 February, will have platforms such as the Android, Microsoft and Symbian at the top of the agenda and will have the backdrop of the harsh economic climate and how the industry can improve consumer spending in such a context.
Another key topic will be how music has become an important part of the industry. The organisers will have dedicated a one-day conference, called Mobile Backstage, that will look at how various elements of new web and cellular technology is affecting the needs of the consumer.
