MWC: Samsung says it has developed 4G technology
Samsung has announced what it says are ‘two of the strongest candidates for 4G technologies’.

Mobile WiMAX and newly announced Long Term Evolution (LTE) have been pipped by the manufacturer to carry 4G technology

A smartphone will be included in the Mobile WiMAX range and the LTE system range will also include a ‘mobile phone like LTE device’.

Samsung already markets its ‘Femtocells’ in the US, a mini mobile mast, which provides better coverage inside the home. The manufacturer has announced two new mobile masts called the U-RAS Flexible and the U-RAS Compact.

Hyojong Lee, senior vice president of telecom systems division, said: ‘We see increasing demand for data services, regardless whether indoors or outside, even on the move. With our end-to-end Total Solution for the 4G wireless system, we will lead the way in this mobile broadband era.’

Trials of the new technologies will begin this year. The first mass market LTE service will begin in 2010.
