Vodafone’s 30-day deadline for new store openings
Vodafone must open 30 stores in a month to stay on track with its 50 store openings plan.
The news follows an announcement on Tuesday (23 February) by the operator that it will cut 500 UK jobs, in a bid to save £1bn in costs.
Vodafone said the store rollout will ‘continue as normal’ and that it had been working on the store openings since December 2008.
Some have predicted the network will aim to put less dependence on the high street following the announcement that Vodafone would put more focus online.
Vodafone said it would make an ongoing investment in online to open up jobs.
Emeka Obiodu, Senior Telecoms analyst at Ovum, said: ‘Operationally, Vodafone’s UK unit is not really going to shut down high street sales. It will now be looking to increase efforts on online sales in a bid to reduce dependence on the high street.’
