Carphone Warehouse plans to cut 450 UK jobs
Carphone Warehouse CEO Andrew Harrison has confirmed that up to 450 UK jobs are at risk in the retailer’s efficiency review.
Carphone Warehouse wants to cut jobs are in administration functions but is adamants that ‘front line sales’ will not be affected.
Changes could include outsourcing payroll and supplier payments to third parties and simplifying marketing by focusing on fewer, bigger launches.
‘We are generally reshaping a number of departments. We need to be more focused, we need to do fewer things better,’ Harrison told Mobile. He stressed that Carphone Warehouse had traded well over the last year, but that consumers expected price reductions in future, even though input costs are under pressure.
Harrison believes Carphone can reduce complexity in its business and have a simpler, more structured approach. Carphone is likely to put more emphasis on managing the life cycle of its products, with a clearer ‘one in, one out’ policy.
Harrison said the moves will put Carphone in a stronger position: ‘We are trying to open a number of wireless stores. We need capital to do that, so we need to free capital up from other parts of the business.’
