Carphone to ‘significantly’ reduce handset range
Carphone Warehouse is significantly reducing its handset range, as part of streamlining plans announced in January.
The move coincided with the retailer’s move to cut 450 staff last week (26 February).
Carphone UK chief, Andrew Harrison, said: ‘We might be more selective about the range of handsets. Every product launch we do adds to the complexity. We have 340 handsets that we range at one time and we can reduce complexity of the business. Only 20 or 30 of them account for majority of profit.’
Harrison could not give specific numbers, but confirmed the range would be reduced ‘significantly’. He added: 'To reduce the complexity of the business we have to significantly reduce that and work with our partners to see they can work with us so can keep a breadth of choice while reducing complexity.'
However, Harrison said that Carphone would not reduce its partners: ‘The essence of our business is to work with as many partners as possible.’
