Vodafone refutes union claims that job cuts could topple 600
Vodafone has denied claims made by its union, Connect, that UK job cuts could be over 600.
The operator has stuck by its original figure of 500 job cuts, released in a statement about job reductions last month (24 February).
Vodafone has snubbed the union’s claim to have seen evidence that there will be around 640 job cuts, over 100 more cuts than originally stated by the operator, last month.
A spokesman for Connect said: ‘It is our understanding that more than 600 jobs will go in total, but we are working very hard to push the company to reduce these numbers and to pursue a positive approach to re-training and redeployment.’
Vodafone said last month that jobs would be cut from its headquarters and from call centres across the country. These redundancies will affect people in admin and technical roles in what Vodafone termed ‘back office’ jobs. The operator has said retail jobs will not be affected and there will be an increased emphasis on online.
