O2 rumoured as launch partner for Palm Pre in the UK
Telefonica has agreed with manufacturer Palm to launch
the Palm Pre smartphone in the UK,
Spain and Latin
America, according to reports.
The Spanish news outlet, Expansion, said O2’s parent
has already signed the agreement, quashing rumours that Vodafone was likely to
distribute the phone.
Palm’s Pre phone is the first phone from the US-based
company to reach the UK
market for some time. Vodafone has been selling the company’s Treo Pro, but the
handset has faced tough competition from RIM’s Blackberry and Nokia’s E Series.
An O2 spokeswoman said: ‘Our device strategy operates
on the principle that the proposition has to be right and it has to add value
to the customer. As part of that, we go for the best in class of any category
of handset. We have made no announcement on this particular handset.’
