Phones 4u scraps roles of all admin staff in stores
Phones 4u has made a radical change to how its 400 stores are run and has scrapped the roles of all of its 290 administrative store staff.
It mounts further pressure on the 400-store retail chain to improve performance in the declining contract handset market.
The move to scrap back office functions in stores has come as the retailer looks to place greater emphasis on sales. Admin staff have been invited to reapply for the 200 new store sales functions Phones 4u said it was creating.
Responsibilities for admin staff include all stock, credit check and staff records and compliance such as stock records, paperwork for contracts, staff rotas and timesheets.
A spokeswoman for Phones 4u said: ‘Phones 4u can confirm that it is in the process of carrying out a consultation regarding a proposed restructure of its in-store administration roles.’
