3 UK has reported revenue increases of 9%, propelled by the take up of mobile broadband last year. 3 UK parent Hutchison Whampoa reported its results for the full year ended December 31 today (March 26).


Hutchison now has 2.5 million dongle customers overall and 1 million dongle users in the UK and Ireland.


The company’s UK arm grew its customer base by 23% to 5.4 million over the year, which 3 said was also down to the surge in mobile broadband customers. 3 UK’s prepay customers grew by 3% to 1.7 million, while its contract customers grew by 35% to 3.6 million.


Meanwhile, ARPU to December 31 2008 fell, as new dongle customers took advantage of £15 per month contracts.


3 Group now has a total of 18.4 million customers. Revenue grew year-on-year in all of the group’s operations except 3 Italia and 3 Australia. Gross margin grew in all countries except Australia.


3 Group operates in the UK and Ireland, Italy, Australia, Sweden and Denmark and Austria.
