Tesco rebrands mobile stores as more sites are opened
Tesco has revamped its Telecom stores to ‘Phone Shops’, in a bid to simplify its standalone stores that sell mobile and fixed-line products and services.
There are now 42 specialist stores, and sources claimed Tesco was aiming for between 90 and 100 in 2009. A spokeswoman said it wouldn’t be accurate to pinpoint that figure and said that it was ‘a moveable feast’.
One source said Tesco is reviewing the number in light of the economic climate.
Tesco was opening two stores per month in 2008, as the supermarket went from nine stores at the start of 2008, to 40 as the year ended.
It is also opening stores beyond the bigger Tesco Extra formats, to more general large store formats.
