The BBC trials mobile TV

The BBC has launched a service that allows its content to be used on mobile phones through a wi-fi connection

The service, Live TV, is still in testing and is limited to a range of handsets.  Viewers will be able to watch channels such as BBC One, BBC Four, CBeebies and BBC News over a wi-fi connection.  Radio shows can also now be streamed live on mobile devices.

Phones that support the service include some Nokia N Series handsets and the T-Mobile G1. However, it does not currently work on the iPhone or iPod Touch.

The BBC said on its blog: ‘Live TV and Radio is available on a wide range of Wi-Fi-enabled handsets. Over the coming months, we are hoping to make it available on even more handsets.’

It also reminded viewers that they need to hold a
colour TV licence in order to watch the live programmes.
