3 store staff told to accept cuts or leave

3 store staff have been told to accept cuts in hours, pay and holiday entitlement, or leave the company by 7 June, according to staff at 3.

It follows an earlier report by Mobiletoday this week outlining the details of 3’s cost cutting in stores, affecting assistant managers, basic pay and opening times.

Staff were told about the cuts on Monday. Retail staff were told there will now be a consultation period that ends on 7 June, at which point they will need to sign a new contract or leave.

Although staff will have their hours slashed, there will be no new bonus structure and holiday entitlement will be cut in line with hours.

Asource said: ‘It’s called a proposal but it’s really sign it by June or leave.’

The operator will reduce its basic pay for retail staff from 85% of their total pay packet to 70%, leaving greater pressure to hit targets.
3 will also stop 30 of its 300 stores from opening on Sundays, and will cut the number of hours that staff work. Many currently started their day at 8am despite stores not opening until 10am.

A 3 spokesman said: ‘We’re proposing to change our store hours to focus on the times when our customers want to shop while looking to improve our performance across retail. This plan is designed to do this while avoiding redundancies.'
