Samsung searches for new ‘director of sales’
Samsung has created a new ‘director of sales’ role, to replace Jon French who is set to join HTC as country manager. The new Samsung role is believed to be vastly more senior in its scope than French’s previous ‘general manager for sales’ job.
Commenting on the new role, UK vice president Mark Mitchinson said: ‘The recent announcement to appoint a director of sales is natural and obvious in many ways. We have a sales force that is second to none in the industry and I’m looking for an exceptional and highly skilled individual to lead this talented team of professionals in 2009 and beyond.'
He added: 'Samsung has experienced unprecedented record growth in 2008 and it is vital we build upon an excellent start to 2009 and realise our full potential.’
The role will report directly into Mitchinson, and be an enlarged sales role, covering all of Samsung’s UK mobile sales.
It comes after French’s departure at the start of this month (first revealed by Mobiletoday).
French exited Samsung with operator buyers speaking highly of French who had risen to prominence during a successful six year career at Samsung and worked under his uncle, Mark Mitchinson.
Mitchinson said: ‘Samsung is naturally disappointed to see Jon French leave the organisation. He has done a tremendous job and deserves the recognition. As his uncle I guess it was inevitable that he would one day fly the nest and fend for himself. I want to make it clear though, my sister (Jon’s mum) did not influence his decision to leave Samsung and the rumour that Jon is frugal is an understatement.’
French couldn’t be reached to respond to his uncle and former boss’s comments.
