Retailers hopeful of Easter sales jump
Retailers had fingers crossed ahead of the Easter weekend of a boost to phone sales in the second most important period of trading in the year after Christmas.
Both O2 and Carphone Warehouse have the newly discounted 3G iPhone in stores with point of sale material in windows advertising the phone available for free on more line rental deals.
Elsewhere, Phones 4u has boosted its commissions for managers over the weekend, and is offering a weekend away to the value of £1,000 to the area regional director who performs the best over the Easter weekend.
The new Samsung Tocco Ultra is expected to play a big role for several retailers in attracting customers into stores this weekend.
The Easter weekend usually sees a spike in prepay sales with casual shopping for gifts, but were bracing themselves for a continuation of the poor footfall on the high street that has characterised the year so far.
Others were more optimistic, believing the national holiday could provide a necessary jolt to trading.
Orange has slashed 50% from a selection of prepay handsets, and T-Mobile is extending its offer of reducing Combi £35 per month to £25 per month over the Easter weekend.
