Nokia in netbook talks with Taiwanese PC manufacturer

Clearer signs emerged this week that Nokia will enter the netbook market amid reports that it is in negotiations with a Taiwanese PC manufacturer.

Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS) is believed to be a frontrunner as Nokia’s partner over notebook orders.

In March, Nokia’s chief executive, Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, said the manufacturer was ‘looking actively’ into making Nokia-branded laptops.

It is understood that talks could be settled during the next quarter, with a possible release of Nokia’s first netbook by the end of 2009.

Nokia is thought to be looking at applying its Symbian interface and Ovi platform on laptops, and using its music, mapping and emailing services on
a netbook.

Nokia declined to comment.
