T-Mobile partners Virgin to put Wi-Fi on trains
T-mobile has partnered with Virgin Trains to offer wireless internet on its West Coast train service.
The network claims it can provide an internet connection throughout the journey even when in tunnels and at high speeds.
T-Mobile will use its HotSpot service initially on 52 trains by mid-summer.
The network already provides Wi-Fi on Heathrow Express services and on the London to Brighton Southern route, through a partnership with Nomad Digital.
With Virgin, first class passengers will get free access to the service, while other passengers can purchase HotSpot passes online from their Wi-Fi enabled device.
T-Mobile Mobile Broadband pay monthly customers have unlimited HotSpot access included in their plans, so will be able to access the new service at no extra cost.
T-Mobile’s head of internet and entertainment, Richard Warmsley said: ‘This provides a unique solution on-board Virgin Trains , at no extra cost to our pay monthly Mobile Broadband customers, and available to everyone, whatever mobile phone network they use.’
