Carphone set for 95 more job cuts
Carphone Warehouse will cut another 95 jobs on top of the 450 already announced earlier this year.
The additional job cuts bring the total number of jobs 'at risk' to 545. Carphone Warehouse said in a statement: ‘Following on from our previous announcement in February that 450 roles were at risk of redundancy, a further 95 roles from our Acton Support Centre have also been placed at risk.
‘Affected employees are currently going through a consultation process and we hope to relocate as many of them as possible to other areas of our business.’
Meanwhile Carphone has also blocked it staff from accessing a Communication Workers Union networking website, called Carphone Worker.
Carphone said in a statement: ‘We have taken the decision to restrict access to this website. We already have established ways of communicating and consulting with our employees including forums, meetings with employee representatives and regular engagement.’
CWU deputy general secretary, Andy Kerr, said: ‘Blocking access to a union-run website is very worrying as it denies staff independent advice and information and sends the wrong message on union membership, especially given the company has acknowledged that information on the site is accurate.’
