Microsoft in new smartphone move following decision to annouce app store

Microsoft is making a new bid to crack into the mobile phone market, after its decision to launch an application store earlier this year.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Microsoft is in talks with America’s biggest mobile carrier Verizon Wireless to launch a smartphone early in 2010. Microsoft declined to comment.

Dell is also considering a move into the smartphone market, with a touch-screen phone running on Android or Windows Mobile.

In March, Microsoft announced it had recruited a list of big name developers for its new online mobile phone application store.

Microsoft revealed in February that it would have a marketplace for applications, which is set to open in the second half of 2009.
