Carphone set to meld insurance with GeekSquad as it rebrands the service
Carphone Warehouse is in the process of rebranding its insurance business as GeekSquad.
The move is part of the retailer bolstering its customer call-out/help scheme, GeekSquad, and integrating it with insurance.
Insurance on mobile phone sales continues to be a major source of revenue for Carphone, but the company wants to rebrand the service, as it starts selling more complicated and converged services around mobile, laptops, broadband, gaming and even TV services.
The combined packages will offer tiered levels of cover and call-out service, with the tagline, ‘From computer crashes to mobile smashes’. Best Buy CEO Roger Taylor confirmed the decision at Carphone’s recent financial results.
Separately, Carphone has started pushing Virgin Media TV/broadband services more prominently in its stores in recent weeks.
