Call centres chosen over stores as HTC Magic launches
The HTC Magic has generated good initial sales in call centres, but there was a slower uptake in stores despite high customer interest, according to staff.
The handset was released on 1 May – it is the second Android handset in the UK, and is exclusive to Vodafone.
One Vodafone call centre salesman said: ‘Three out of the eight sales I ?made on 1 May were for an HTC Magic.’
One Phones 4u call centre staffer said: ‘We’ve only just got them in stock and already we’ve sold 15 or 20.’
Meanwhile, the high street has seen lower initial sales. One Vodafone staffer in a London store said: ‘Sales are still a bit slow – it’s going well, people are asking for it, but it will take time.’
Phones 4u stores had only just received the HTC Magic (pictured) and are currently competing against a lower priced contract online. Stores are selling it on £40 contracts while online prices undercut this by £10 per month.
A Vodafone spokesman said: ‘It has been positively received; sales went very well over the weekend.’
