Carphone buys Tiscali UK for £236m
Carphone Warehouse has bought Tiscali UK for £236m
and will combine the broadband provider with its TalkTalk business.
The deal will create the UK’s biggest home broadband
provider with 4.25 million subscribers – 25% of the market – when it is
completed at the end of June. Carphone said it expects the move to boost its
earnings by 10% in the next year.
Carphone chief Charles Dunstone (pictured) said the company would
eventually have a single brand, but the Tiscali email address will stay.
Last month, Carphone announced plans to separate its
mobile business from its TalkTalk fixed line and broadband arm.
