Sales of Google Android devices set to increase in 2009

Sales of phones with Google's Android operating system are expected to rise 10-fold to eight million, according to Strategy Analytics.

On average, the smartphone market is expected to grow between 10% and 20% in 2009, from the 152 million phones sold last year.

Manufacturers and operators are attracted to Android's relatively low-cost licensing model, its semi-open source structure and Google's support for services.
