Vodafone drops mobile roaming charges for summer

Vodafone has announced that it is dropping all mobile roaming charges for three months over the summer.

From the start of June, customers will be able to use minutes from their price plan while abroad at no extra cost, whether they are on a contract or pay as you go.

The time-limited promotion, ending in August, ties in with the existing Vodafone Passport deal – where consumers can use their minutes as part of their bundle when abroad – but it will not include the usual 75p connection fee for receiving and making calls.

A Vodafone spokesperson said: ‘We have chosen the busiest holiday time and the popular destinations to bring this great value proposition to all of our existing customers as well as those who’d like to join Vodafone.’

The decision to remove the extra charges will coincide with new European regulations capping the cost of SMS messages while abroad.

From July, operators will not be able to charge their customers more than 10p for a text message while out of the country.
