Orange drops bid for Project Kangaroo
Orange has dropped its potential bid for an on-demand TV service that was supposed to be a collaboration between BBC, ITV and Channel 4.
Project Kangaroo had considerable expectation in the TV industry as a ‘super’ version of BBC’s iPlayer, allowing users to access TV programmes across the main terrestrial TV channels.
An Orange spokesman said: ‘We can confirm that we are not pursuing our interest in the catch-up TV service Kangaroo.
‘After in-depth due diligence, we concluded that it was unlikely that an outcome which benefited France Telecom's Orange operations would be met.’
Orange had planned to launch a TV service over the internet for its one million home broadband customers, but that has been ditched to focus on improving service and cost cutting.
