Smartphone sales up in Q1 2009
Smartphone sales grew by 12.7% in the first quarter of 2009, while mobile phone sales fell by 8.6%, according to research firm Gartner.
Over 269 million handsets were sold in quarter one this year, according to the analyst group, with smartphone sales surpassing 36.4 million units.
Apple’s iPhone (pictured) took 11% of the smartphone market, and BlackBerry increased its hold by 6% from quarter one 2008, and now has around a 20% share of the market.
Apple has doubled its share from 5.4% to 10.8% in one year.
Nokia was the leading manufacturer in quarter one, although its market share was down on the same quarter of last year.
