Live demonstration handsets in retail stores hijacked by porn

Retailers have found pornography to be an unexpected enemy in ambitions to install live handsets in retail.

Demonstration phones in stores are being sent pornographic or ‘indecent’ images and videos via Bluetooth, according to retail staff.

The problem is on such a major scale, that senior directors at retailers and manufacturers are looking at permanently disabling Bluetooth connectivity on in-store demonstration handsets to prevent people from sending offensive images and videos to them.

Operator stores in particular are increasingly keen to showcase live handsets, to demonstrate new services and to increase usage.

One retail staffer said: ‘We get all sorts of stuff, and have to keep deleting things off the phones before it is seen.’

He added: ‘Customers either tell us or we see someone’s horrified face after playing around with a live handset.’
