Sony Ericsson revealed three new handsets at a launch
yesterday (29 May), including a phone that allows consumers to connect with a
PlayStation 3 games console.
The Aino phone allows users to access media content
from the gaming station on the move and will be available form the fourth
quarter, alongside the other two handsets. The move signals the first integration
of a Sony product and Sony Ericsson phone other than branding.
The Satio, which was previously announced at Mobile
World Congress as the Idou, is a touchscreen with 12 megapixel camera and a
Walkman, while the Yari contains a Nintendo Wii-like sensor for gaming.
The Satio is being marketed as the manufacturer’s ‘flagship’
phone and features applications for YouTube and Facebook access, as well as
free access to Hollywood movies.
Sony Ericsson has struggled over the last year after
returns issues, a lack of handset releases, and a £293m loss for the first
quarter as demand for its handset fell by around 35%.
