Samsung wins 12 megapixel race with new Pixon model

Samsung will become the first UK manufacturer to release a 12 megapixel camera phone with the release of the Pixon12 later this month.

The device sees Samsung pip Sony Ericsson to 12 megapixels, after the latter last week announced that the Satio (previously known as ‘Idou’) will launch in Q4 this year.

As expected, the camera comes equipped with a range of mod-cons; Samsung claims it captures photos quicker than previous devices, allowing users to take their next shot within two seconds.

The camera also boasts a 28mm lens with Xenon flash, and Touch Auto-Focus tracking, meaning users can select focus points with the touch of a button, after which the function will automatically follow the object, keeping it in focus as it moves across the screen.

Photos can be viewed on the device’s 3.1-inch AMOLED screen. The Pixon12 also offers 1650MB of on-board storage (expandable to 16MB), internal GPS and HSPA 900/2100 MHz.
