Power50 and Shop Idol crown Mobile awards night

Samsung’s strength over the last 12 months landed it the Best Manufacturer, Carphone Warehouse scooped Best Retailer, Data Select was the best distributor of the year and O2 won Best Network for the second year in a row. The Apple 3G iPhone took phone of the year.
The ‘360 degree’ judging process at the Mobile Industry Awards involved consumer and industry surveys, as well as high level judges from retailers, operators, manufacturers and analysts.
Elsewhere Mark Kearns from T-Mobile, Leigh, was crowned Shop Idol in an emotional final amid fierce competition from Phones 4u’s Sam Wheeler and fellow T-Mobile contender, Jaymie Brook.
Carphone Warehouse CEO Andrew Harrison was recognised for a remarkable year transforming the company to become Mobile’s ‘Person of the Year’.
Among the other awards, the success of the 3G iPhone’s applications made it the Phone of the Year. The emergence of INQ’s social networking mobile phones made it the Best Newcomer.
