Roaming confusion revealed by Carphone Warehouse consumer survey
Less than half of consumers are aware of the EU ruling that will put a cap on roaming charges, according to research by Carphone Warehouse.
Only 38% of people were aware of the rules that will come in from 1 July, and most are confused about how the charges work.
From July, charges will be capped at a maximum of around 10p for sending a text, while calls made to or received from Britain will be capped at 38p and 17p per minute respectively.
Currently, texts cost around 25p to send, but O2 charges 35p per text. Calls are charged at around 38p per minute.
Confusion among consumers is rife. Carphone found that 45% believe it costs money even to receive a text when outside Britain, but there is not actually a charge.
