First mobile phone directory set for launch later this month
The first directory of mobile phone numbers will be launched on June 18 and could contain up to 42 million phone numbers.
The 118800.co.uk service, by Connectivity, will put calls through to the person they are looking for rather than giving the numbers out.
The operator will then speak to that person and, if they agree, will put the caller through.
Customers can also search online to see whether the person they are looking for is listed and register their own contact details. The details will then be texted and the recipient has the option of whether to call back.
Consumers can opt for their mobile to become ex-directory by sending a text message or calling at a standard network rate. Numbers belonging to under-18s are excluded from the directory.
