Samsung launches main flagship device for 2009, 'Jet'

Samsung unveiled its latest device to take on the iPhone last night.

The ‘Jet’, a touchscreen multimedia handset, is available in Vodafone stores from today for a two-week exclusive period. It’s been offered to all networks and retailers to sell after that period.

The Jet offers an 800 MHz processor to ensure it’s fast and responsive, as well as a 3.1 inch touchscreen and a five megapixel camera. The screen is WVGA AMOLED, which Samsung claims provides a resolution that is four times higher than a WQVGA screen.

The device will be backed by a £5M marketing campaign, which will start with TV advertising from July 3rd.

Samsung Mobile UK’s general manager, Derek Williamson, told Mobile: ‘I think the Jet can push the iPhone, especially when you consider the speed of it and the brilliance of the screen.

‘There will always be other strong players in the market, so we just focus making sure our own products are great.’
