Government considers mobile broadband for London Underground

Complaints on the speed and reliability of mobile broadband coverage look set to become a thing of the past, after the Government pledged to improve wireless 3G coverage across the country, including on Britain’s railways.

Communications Minister Lord Stephen Carter also revealed the Government will discuss the possibility of bringing mobile coverage to the London Underground in time for the 2012 London Olympics.

Plans to provide the tube with coverage have previously been raised and then shelved, but the Digital Britain report has resurrected the possibility of mobile usage on the Underground.
