Terminate the Rate campaign gathers pace with two new members

The Terminate the Rate campaign gathered momentum this week, as the coalition lobbying for lower mobile termination rates (MTRs) – headed by BT and 3 – enlisted two new members.

The campaign added the recently merged charity, Age Concern and Help the Aged, as well as big business representative Communication Management Associate (CMA).

3 and BT have been using newspaper adverts to attract new members to the cohort. The group is aiming to reduce termination rates – the charges between networks to connect a call – to zero.

There are now nine companies in the Terminate the Rate coalition, the two new recruits join BT, 3, Federation of small businesses (FSB), the national union of students (NUS), Carers UK, Britain’s general union (GMB) and Moneysupermarket.com.

Ofcom is due to start its second consultation process on the issue and has so far ‘opened up the debate of MTRs’ with a six point recommendation.
