iPhones run out at O2 stores as staff are inundated with requests
O2’s store estate sold out of the iPhone 3G S as Mobile went to press and was expecting a delivery on Friday (3 July).
Retail staff have been inundated with requests on when the next shipment of handsets will be available. Staff said they were not taking advanced orders opting for a first come, first serve basis.
The Oxford Street store completely sold out of all the models on the first day.
It bucked negative comments from critics that the improvements on the ‘S’ version wouldn’t entice customers. Senior sources said the operator had record performances on the device’s initial weekend in stores.
While other stores have none of the new model available they still have a few of the old 3G model in stock.
One staff member, based in south-east London, said: ‘We have none left and lots of people are coming in and asking for it, but we don’t know when they are coming.’
