Mobile music downloads reach record high in May with 1.72 million downloads
Mobile music downloads reached a record high of 1.72m downloads in May, according to research carried out by GfK. The value of the market also reached a record high of £2.36m.
The research company found that the market is still growing in terms of volume and that each month of 2009 so far has registered at least 1.5m downloads.
Almost a third of the downloaded music came from subscription services, which the company said is an indication that value is growing at a slower rate than volume.
The second highest month of downloads was January this year, when 1.61m MP3s were downloaded.
Manufacturers including Nokia and Samsung have heavily been promoting music on specific handsets.
