O2 has partnered Palm for the exclusive rights on the Palm Pre
Palm and Telefonica announced an exclusive partnership today for the launch of the Palm Pre in the UK, Germany, Ireland and Spain.
The partnership marks the another high profile exclusive partnership between O2 and a manufacturer, after it sealed the UK rights to the Apple iPhone in 2007.
The eagerly anticipated handset has already been released in the United States exclusively on Sprint. It is understood; the phone had 80,000 sales in its first weekend on sale in the United States.
The handset will be launched at period in the run up to Christmas.
O2’s head of consumer marketing, Jonathan Earle, said: It’s about the offering – we want to appeal to a variety of customers – it’s about offering choice, O2 wants to be the home of the smartphone.’
Palm’s, Europe, Middle East and Africa vice president, Paul Ghent (pictured) said: ‘We’re delighted to be working with Telefonica who have a strong brand in the market.’
