Phones 4u staff to climb Kilimanjaro
Phones 4u has announced it will attempt to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in a bid to raise £250,000 in aid of The Ellis Harriet Clark Foundation.
The trek will be supported by BlackBerry, and will take Phones 4u staff along the Machame route that approaches Kilimanjaro from the south, through dense tropical rainforest all the way up to the summit at 5,896m.
The retailer is offering its head office staff the opportunity to take part in the experience, where 30 chosen candidates will become part of the Phones 4u Trek Team 2010. The successful candidates will be announced on 29 July.
The trek will take place on 5 to 14 February 2010, but Phones 4u staff will be dedicating their time to the challenge from August 2009. The retailer will hold regular training days in the build up to the trek, including a weekend climbing Snowdon in October 2009.
A dedicated internal microsite and blog have also been created, where Phones 4u staff can support and follow the progress of fellow colleagues.
Each of the candidates will be set the personal goal of raising a minimum of £1,000 for the charity, and Phones 4u will provide a fundraising pack with ideas and advice.
The Ellis Harriet Clark Foundation was founded with the sole aim of supporting the lives of children suffering with cancer.
Phones 4u operations director Tom Shorten said: ‘The Phones 4u Trek Team’s heroic efforts will raise important funds that will go some way to making the lives of children suffering with cancer a little easier.
‘Every single penny counts and our stores will also be getting behind the initiative, raising money for the foundation.’
