Virgin Media to launch own-branded netbooks
Virgin Media is launching own-branded netbooks capable of 50 Mb speeds for free to new and existing customers.
The move coincides the announcement that the company has completed its first next-generation broadband network today (July 15), offering ‘ultrafast’ speeds of up to 50Mb.
Virgin Media has also announced a new pricing structure for the service from 1 September, when the monthly cost of 50Mb will be £28 with a phone line or £38 on its own.
The company is now launching a pilot trial for upload speeds of up to 10Mb, which could be used for bandwidth-hungry families, multi-player gaming and home working.
The laptops are initially being offered free with a software package, but may be offered with mobile broadband in the future if successful.
Virgin Media executive director of sales, Peter Taddeo, said ‘With its beautiful bespoke design and fantastic value software package, our new Virgin Media branded laptops are sure to be a real hit with customers.
‘The Freedom netbook is a great bit of kit and the handy size means that people will be able to access their broadband service at home as well as when they are on the move.’
