Carphone is considering a move into TV with Tiscali assets
Carphone is considering a move into TV, following its acquisition of Tiscali’s UK assets, including its TV service, last week.
Carphone’s, chief executive, Charles Dunstone told the Financial Times, that the retailer was considering participating in a BBC led project called Canvas and developing Tiscali TV.
The BBC’s Canvas project is to provide a next-generation Freeview set-top box to supply consumers with video on demand through a fixed-line broadband connection.
Carphone completed its deal to buy Tiscali's UK assets for £236m last week. These include Tiscali TV, a service that provides customers with Freeview channels and video-on-demand content.
Dunstone said. ‘We might say Canvas isn't the answer and we will go and reinvigorate Tiscali TV.’
