Vodafone launches M2M service platform
Vodafone is launching a global platform to help companies manage wireless machine to machine (M2M) projects.
The operator is expecting the demand for M2M services to rise significantly as businesses use the technology to remotely monitor equipment, introduce smart metering for utilities and establish alerts for cars involved in accidents.
Vodafone will provide wireless customer service through a single point of contact for users to manage M2M connectivity.
A dedicated team of 100 people, with global responsibility for the service, has been established to develop services specifically for industry needs.
Machine to machine technology allows machines to communicate with each other wirelessly.
Vodafone global enterprise chief executive, Nick Jeffery, said: ‘The market for M2M smart services using intelligent devices is taking off, but in order for it to deliver its true potential, service providers like Vodafone need to provide customers with managed connectivity that is reliable, cost effective and universal’.
