LG increases handset sales by 8% in Q2 to 29.8 million
LG has reported an 8% increase in handset shipments in Q2 to a record 29.8 million – up from 22.6 million last quarter.

LG’s operating profit margin on mobile phone sales rose quarter on quarter to 11.0 percent from 6.7 percent in Q1.

Meanwhile, year-on-year, Q2 handset operating profits remained flat, with a dip of 537.5bn Won (£262m) down from 541bn Won (£264m) last year.

LG Electronics as whole posted a net profit of 1.15 trillion won (£550m) in the quarter, against 707bn won (£344m) a year ago. This includes all products, such handset, televisions and air condition units.

The company attributed the growth in handset sales to an increase in sales of the existing handsets the Cookie and KS360, as well as the high-end phone the Arena.

Mobile reported earlier this month that the manufacturer had snatched a 10.9% market share in the UK handset market in June, ahead of its target for 10% by the end of the year.

LG said: ‘LG sees the global market declining over 6% year-on-year to around 280 million units in the third quarter but, as for LG, steady growth is expected with the introduction of high-end devices.
