Sony Ericsson W995 maintains 20% share despite being ignored by three networks

Strong sales of the W995 have kept Sony Ericsson’s UK market share above 20%, despite its ‘hero handset’ being ignored by three networks.

Vodafone and T-Mobile have chosen not to stock the device and it was only available on expensive £75 per month tariffs on O2.

Orange and 3 were the only networks to sell the W995, with 3 including a three month Sky TV trial with the handset. Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4u were enthusiastic supporters of the device.

It was seen by many consumers as a rare alternative to touch-screen phones at the top-end of the market.

Sony Ericsson is now in discussions with networks over the stocking of its Satio and Aino devices, which are poised for release in September under its new Entertainment Unlimited brand.
