INQ CEO Frank Meehan to join Spotify board
INQ CEO Frank Meehan (pictured) will be joining the board of Spotify and adding a ‘mobile perspective’ to the company.
The move is intended to intensify Spotify’s position in the mobile space, after developing a yet-to-be approved application for the iPhone.
Meehan told Mobile: ‘I will be taking a full board position and will be very focused in helping Spotify become a success in mobile.’
The online streaming service allows users to listen to music for free by funding its content through advertising.
Over the past few months there has been intense speculation over Spotify being available more widely on mobiles. The company is still waiting for its iPhone application to be approved.
Meehan’s appointment to the board comes after news of the Li Ka-Shing foundation investing in Spotify. Li Ka-Shing is also chairman of Hutchison Whampoa, the parent company of 3 and INQ.
