Digital Britain discussions ‘tense’

Operators have so far failed to agree on the ratio of spectrum they will be allocated ahead of a Digital Britain September deadline.

Sources said negotiations, which have been taking place between operators and the Government since the Digital Britain report in June, have been tense and have not yet resulted in an agreement.

Discussions have concerned the ‘ratio’ of spectrum allowed to each operator for next generation services. Operators are worried that if this is not done in the right way, 900MHz holders O2 and Vodafone will have a competitive advantage.

One source said: ‘The issues are so huge – it will take some time to resolve this.’
